Buyers Seize the Market as Home Sales Increase in May

While year-over-year sales continue to lag, both home sales and prices increased month-over-month in May across New England, led by Rhode Island. With inventory levels down throughout the region vs the same time last year, the market is active with buyers who believe that prices have bottomed and interest rates will soon be on the rise. “Buyers are recognizing the true value of buying real estate,” said RE/MAX Executive Vice President, Jay Hummer. “We’re encouraged to see buyers back in the market taking advantage of low prices and interest rates.”  Read the Report. Spring is in full bloom as New England experienced month-over-month growth of +10.9% with each state making a positive contribution The granite state of New Hampshire is the only state that has shown consistent month-over-month growth since January. Spring is in bloom this month as home sales increased an impressive 37.7% across New England with each state experiencing an upswing. Pricing also showed signs of stabilization with a slight overall decrease of -1.1% primarily driven by Rhode Island. “After one of the toughest winter’s in history, we are certainly seeing an uptick in activity and lots of strong energy around the housing market. Buyers understand the long term benefits of home ownership and are recognizing now is the time to take action,” said RE/MAX of New England Executive Vice President Jay Hummer.
